Club Matchplay Champions

Club Captain MC

Last Saturday saw the finals of the Matchplay through the divisions getting played, be fair to say the conditions were challenging but the course held up well after a dreadful week of weather, thanks to all the braved the morning conditions as it was a hard slog.

Sadly the Senior final wasn't able to be played as James Smithson had to concede through injury to Jordan Anderson which was a real shame being the defending champ.

The intermediate match was a great game with Grant Kite proving to strong over the last 9 holes against Terry Johnson, Terry had been 4 down after the first round then bounced back to be one up with 9 to play but a series of pars by Grant saw him take the title on the 35th hole.

The Juniors also saw a titanic battle between Nigel Jeffrey and Matt MacDonald and nothing separated them after 36 holes of matchplay with Matt taking the match on the 37th hole, I'm sure Matt will run you all through the match blow by blow if you ask.

In the Roy Wills Final Roger Kilpatrick made no race of it over Simon May using all his experience to comfortably win his match on the 15th but credit to Simon playing his first ever matchplay comp and sure to be a stronger player for the experience.

This Saturday we have the Spedding/Ennis Cup, we will be returning to the old format so slightly different from what is advertised so after the first week the field will be split down the middle with the top half battling it out for best 2 round nett and the bottom half will battle for the Ennis Cup with the best two round nett, this will allow for those that don't go great Saturday to still be in with a chance, next year the plan is to take it back to a 3 round comp as it used to be with first round qualifying but counting then you can discard your worst round.

A mass txt has been sent out for a draw this week so please txt back if you wish to be in a 4 but walk ups are okay if you are unsure till the day.
