Important update about SMS messages
To keep communication reliable and affordable, the club has discontinued sending updates by SMS.
Over time, SMS has become increasingly difficult to manage and unreliable for the club to operate. To improve that would be to cost prohibitive. We have also experienced delivery issues, where messages were being blocked by the carriers. Because of this, SMS is no longer a dependable way for us to share important information.
Rather than continuing with a system that may not work consistently, the club has made the decision to shut down bulk SMS messaging completely.
Where to find club updates now
✅ The club website (official source)
The club website will always contain the final and complete information.
This includes:
competition details
entry information
notices and changes
results and updates
If something is important, it will be on the website. If you cant find it reach out though our contact us page and we will help sort it
We strongly encourage members to check the website regularly, as this is now the authoritative source for club information.
📲 WhatsApp (recommended reminders)
To help members know when something has been updated on the website, the club is moving to WhatsApp to send short reminders with links.
WhatsApp messages:
are free for the club to send
are delivered more reliably than SMS
contain links to the website for full details
are not group chats and do not create chatter
How to proficiently join WhatsApp reminders:
Save the club number: 0224379257
Open WhatsApp and send: JOIN
You can stop receiving reminders at any time by replying STOP
.
📘 Facebook (secondary channel)
The club will continue to post updates on Facebook. However, members should not rely on Facebook alone for important information, as posts may not always appear in everyone’s feed.
Facebook should be treated as a supplementary channel only.
📧 Email (backup only)
We may still send occasional email updates, but email delivery and reading are not guaranteed. Members should ensure their email address is up to date and continue to rely on the website for final details.
Why SMS is no longer used
SMS costs have increased significantly
Delivery of SMS messages has become unreliable
Messages were sometimes delayed or not received
Continuing with SMS was no longer sustainable for the club
For these reasons, SMS messaging has been fully shut down rather than partially continued.
