Wairekei Champion

Another trip over to Taupo to compete in the annual Warekei Wackers two day nett Comp has been completed in what could be described as perfect conditions and it was a credit to the green keepers at Wairekei who did a fantastic job of getting the course playable after the cyclone had been through as you could definitely see where the carnage had taken place but the course itself was its usual "take no prisoners" if you hit a rough one.

So the race for the title came down to the last group and if not for a 10 on the 18th this years champion could well have been Stephen Bruce but alas that filthy 10 pushed Steve back to 3rd, Tom Ferguson birdied the 18th to tie on a combined 143 nett with first timer Kevin Clough so it was off to the 10th hole for a playoff where both made the par 3 green in regulation which in itself is quite a feat, Cloughy had the advantage of having a shot up his sleeve but had a McMassive putt just to get it close which is exactly what he proceeded to do from 30 feet plus then made his par, Tom had a decent chance at birdie to extend the playoff but couldn't hole out making this years champion Kevin Clough, well done to Cloughy who was a popular winner. Cloughy also won the Ennis Trophy for best single round nett which was his 68 nett on the Saturday.

Henry Morton was the other winner on the Friday of the Honda Hacker trophy at the Taupo course Tahara.

Coring is taking place this week on the greens and this Saturday also is the first round of Club Champ Stroke Play, I appreciate timing of the coring is going to be a pain in the butt in such an important comp but weather permitting coring is taking place this week as the window is small to get this job done, think of it as the same for everyone and yes some putts may miss but some may go in for the same reason but we would appreciate if players don't get too precious about it as it has to be done, the decision has been made that there will be no twilight this week to let the guys get the job finished before the weekend.

This week I would normally send out a txt to do a draw but alas I managed to lose my phone over the weekend which means there will be no draws until I sort a replacement and repopulate the information which won't be before the weekend, tee off will be from 10am but if you wish to organize a group to go off earlier we are okay with that, see Brad or I at the starters office to make up the 4's and remember Seniors 0-10.1 and Intermediates 10.2-17.1 both play off the Blue tees with the Juniors 17.2 plus off the whites.

There will be two separate haggles this week for Blue and White tee Nett, any ladies that want in the nett this week will need to be off the white tees.

If you have any questions don't call me but I can pick up txt once at home or messenger on my IPad
